And a long time ago, when I came to Italy for the first time, I met someone on the train – an elderly lady. And she just invited me to her home and treated me like the highest guest in her house for some days. And the whole family did the same. For nothing. For no reason. They’re just born with kindness and love. So all these things happened again when I came back to Italy. And because I have not been here for a long time, I have forgotten. And it seemed like the first time. Similar to all of us, when we are introduced to Heaven again for the first time, we will also think it’s the first time.
I think [Lord] Jesus Christ has left a great impression on this land, although the Lord has left us almost 2000 years ago. So every good thing, even though it’s old, even though it’s out of date, is always useful. And every time we act kindly to people, we have created a great Heaven between us and that person, and also in the surroundings. [Lord] Jesus has not conquered the world by atom bomb, by radioactive missile, but He has conquered with Love. And that’s what, unfortunately, some of us have not learned very well.
If everyone in the world acted like the Italian people, then we would have less war, more peace, and more prosperity for every nation. Since the Lord Jesus had left us, some of us have forgotten how to walk in the way of GOD, how to act in the quality of GOD, how to even remember that we are part of GOD. I’m very happy that the Italian people remember GOD very well. It is a joy for me to be here to witness the marvelous, the wonderful effect of the Teachings of Lord Jesus upon humankind. Can we see how great an influence one person can have upon the whole race of the planet, or at least in some parts of this planet? Especially in Italy.
So one example is always better than a thousand books of theory. Only love can have such a great, long-lasting effect. For the Italian people, I can only praise and have my deep respect and joy to know you. The Lord has blessed you so much, and it even manifests in your culture, in your architecture, in your artistic treasure that is imprinted upon your landmarks since the Lord Jesus has graced your land with His Teaching.
Even in modern times, so many artists also have emerged from your land and conquered the world with their love of beauty, and you know very well – so many famous artists are Italian. So people in the world should learn from this example that we should conquer someone else’s heart by goodness, by love, by beauty, by virtue, and not by weapons. You know that your artists have conquered the world, with their talents, with beautiful fashion, with jewelry, with fine remnants, and with so many beautiful paintings, sculptures, and so on. With Picasso… Is he Italian, by the way? No, he’s not? (No.) The name sounds like it. I would like him to be. OK, Michelangelo, alright? He’s even bigger, for example. And all the world has to come here. All the world has to come here to admire these masterpieces, right in the heart of your land. No, no, it’s not. Sorry. Mistake. Everything with ‘O,’ with ‘I,’ I thought it’s Italian. Bertuccini, Michelangelo, etc. How about Lamborghini? How is that? Is that Italian? You know how much it costs? Three hundred thousand something US dollars. One of the most expensive. And the Ferrari. Most famous, most expensive. Even cars are made in Italy. So that’s how much blessing you have. I can go on and on, but I am not trying to advertise for your economy, so we stop here.
So it just shows… I just want to say that when we have so much faith in GOD, all of our dormant talent, all of the wealth of Heaven, even manifests into actuality. And you’re blessed with the Kingdom of Vatican right here also. And you’re blessed with the presence of many benevolent, gracious Popes in your land. And you’re also now blessed with the most popular Papa – one of the most popular, most beloved holy persons. So you should be very happy. And you should thank GOD every day. I’m very blessed also to be here, even just for a few days. So, for some of you, in case you are not still very happy, if you still think that you really want to know GOD deeper, you really want to… can even talk to GOD directly, or touch GOD, or hug GOD, or even listen to GOD, then I can offer this additional bonus while I am here for a short time. Excuse me. This is the smoke from Europe. Yes. One of the less fortunate things still pervades in this continent.
I was wondering yesterday – I talked to my friend – I was wondering how such a friendly, pure race of people has fallen into this habit? I told them I think they are too pure – everybody just sells them anything, and they just buy anything and just try it. But it’s one of the things that sometimes blurs our vision. Because it causes some disturbance in the brain. Only a few days, in the smoking hotel, smoking airplane, smoking airport, smoking taxi, and I became like this. I even bleed – my nose bleeds – and my ears cannot hear; my head is swollen. How pitiful for people who smoke every day like that. I feel really sorry. So some of us, even though we love GOD, we want to know GOD, we don’t know how to find GOD directly. And in the hunger for spiritual knowledge, for Divine Love, we grab anything that makes us feel a little satisfied, a little intoxicated, a little blissful for a while. Because these are the substitutes that we could get at hand.
But like alcohol or drugs or cigarettes, they are actually poison, and they just make us even less close to GOD. And that’s why in the spiritual practice, we advise people to refrain from these harmful things.
